East Bridge College has developed a centralized grading-assessment database system that provides the faculty a way to grade signature assignments using faculty-created rubrics and access the information later to both compute specific grades for individual students and at the same time find out the strengths and weaknesses in terms of knowledge and skill development of all students. These grading rubrics have been very meticulously devised to include all the essential skills, knowledge, and abilities that must be closely assessed for EBC to determine if the learners are ready to go ahead for the bigger journey ahead. In fact, these rubrics are reflected on the comprehensive assignments that the students develop the necessary insights and expertise that is required to excel in the field of their choice.
East Bridge College’s online learning higher education evaluation method encourages the development of critical thinking and information processing. The professors base the evaluation of the material (reports, projects, and/or thesis) submitted by the students, each accounting for the final grade.
Each Subject comes with a writing assignment which can be a project plan, business plan, reflective writing, lesson plan, critical thinking etc. and each assignment is evaluated on:
Shows how the subject is mastered through case studies, personal comments, and the ability to apply the information learned to problem-solving in practical scenarios. Evaluation of the PQT demonstrates the analysis and critical thinking skills of the student, as reflected in the writing and presentation style.
Lucid Writing - Charts, illustrations etc. - Original work (no copy/paste) - Communication competence.
Personal writing style - Matter analysis (or arguments) - Matter resolution (or topic conclusion) - Critical thinking (Viewpoint).
Grading Scale
Pass | |
---|---|
Higher Distinction | 90-100% |
Distinction | 80-89% |
First Division | 70-79% |
Second Division | 60-69% |
Satisfactory | 50-59% |
Fail | |
Unsatisfactory | 49% and below |
A grade point average of E (2.0 - 50%) or higher is required to earn any course credits.
The assessment process involves three phases:
Once any assignment has been submitted (report, project or thesis), the EBC office carries out a quick format review to state whether the submitted work conforms with the basic format requirements established in the assessment guidelines. Once the format has been verified, the assignment is forwarded to the corresponding professor for content evaluation. Professors are selected on each occasion from EBC’s academic network, among those better qualified for such degree program, and available for the assessment. The professor is expected to assess the work submitted within a period ranging from three to seven weeks. If the ultimate grade does not meet the minimum grade (Satisfactory - 50% - 59%), the paper needs a rework and is to be resubmitted. The evaluating professor will offer any required academic support and explain the ways to secure a good grade (for any grade lower than Second Division (60% - 69%)). Additional improvements are not required for higher grades.
The EBC Supervisor will review a second time the paper evaluated by the specialized assessment professor. The supervisor will focus mainly on the format and weigh the personal quality thinking criteria of the submitted paper. Likewise, the supervisor will also assess the teacher's criteria, grading and comments to ensure that the paper has been properly corrected according to EBC’s distance learning higher education pedagogical standards. If necessary, in case of significant differences between the quality of work and the grade assigned, the supervisor may elect to change the grade proposed by the initial evaluator by 0.5 points (a 15% plus or minus). In the case of major discrepancies , the supervisor may also request for another round of evaluation by a different professor.
The evaluation and supervision results of the papers submitted (report, project or thesis) are presented to the faculty of the Academic Board for the final review and elaboration of the grades certificate or transcript. Finally, the Faculty of the Academic Board will sign the corresponding diploma and transcript.
